Visitors to the California Mid-Winter Fair & Fiesta may have seen documentary crew filming last weekend at the livestock pens and the Grandstand area.
The crew is part of a documentary series called “Small Town, Big Deal,” a show that airs on the RFD-TV Network on Thursdays.
The crew were in Imperial to experience the fair for itself, including the animal judging competitions and High School Madness 2013.
“This is what rural Americana is all about,” said Rodney Miller, one of the hosts and executive producers of the show. “Our show celebrates life in rural America.”
Miller, a former CEO for McCormick International and Montana Tractors, came up with the idea for the program in 2005.
“As a resident of small towns,
Miller produces and hosts the show with Jann Carl, a former reporter and weekend host for “Entertainment Tonight” for 14 years.  Prior to that, Carl was the evening anchor for the Los Angeles-based KTLA’s “News at Ten,” which was broadcast to the Imperial Valley until the late 1990s.
Carl is also a multi-Emmy winner for her reporting, which has taken her all across the country.  Carl has also co-hosted the annual  MDA Telethon with Jerry Lewis for the past 18 years..
“Small Town Big Deal” has been on the air since September 2012 and maintains a spot as one of the top programs for RFD-TV.
The episode about the California Mid-Winter Fair & Fiesta will air on RFD-TV on May 23 at 6:30 pm.  Direct TV customers may find RFD-TV on channel 345 while Dish Network subscribers can find the channel on channel 231.
All others are encouraged to contact their cable company and demand access to RFD-TV.
