Zach Montes and Aimee Larios competed in the 2017 CA State FFA competition in the category of Power, Structural and Technical Systems (PST), winning the State competition in their category.

Aimee Larios and Zach Montes are Holtville High School FFA Students in 10th grade. Their advisor is FFA teacher Mrs. Cox.

On April 23 they competed in the 2017 CA State FFA competition in the category of Power, Structural and Technical Systems (PST). They won the State competition in their category.

Zach Montes explained, “Our project was a comparison on water levels and energy production with hydropower.” When asked if they expected to win he said, “No, this was the first time we have competed. My partner Aimee went to Fresno to compete and receive the award. I’d like to thank Aimee’s family for helping us throughout the project and also Mrs. Cox and Mrs. Schwer.”

Aimee Larios elaborated about the process of submitting the project and competing, “We submitted our paperwork for the competition and through a written report and our (physical) display (that was seen by the judges at the competition) we won. My family helped us throughout the project and Mrs. Cox gave us the idea and Mrs. Schwer helped us with understanding how and why hydropower is important.”
Following their recent success at the Mid-Winter Fair and State Competitions, FFA arduously works on preparing the next group of students that will compete in future competitions.
