The Holtville High School CIF Ring Presentations Banquet occurred at the Swiss Club, June 3. The Green and Gold Hall of Fame put on the event honoring the HHS 2017 Soccer Team Division IV CIF Champions and the HHS 2017 CIF Wrestling Team Division IV CIF Dual Meet Champions. The event began with the HHS Viking Band of Pride playing the Fight Song, followed by a brief introduction by Holtville High School Principal Mario Garcia, Margie Stacey representing the Green and Gold Hall of Fame and finally an invocation by Ralph Garcia of Christ Community Church.

Dinner was served afterward which consisted of tri-tip, cheesy potatoes and green beans. HHS cheerleaders served dinner as a silent auction was held to raise funds to help offset the cost of the CIF rings provided by the Green and Gold Hall of Fame. A video highlighting the winning seasons of the 2017 HHS Soccer team and 2017 HHS Wrestling team titled “Remembering the Champions” played as dinner was being enjoyed by everyone in attendance.

Marv Wood of the Green and Gold Hall of Fame Committee quoted Legendary football coach Vince Lombardi before presenting the CIF rings to the coaches, “All the rings, all the accolades and all the display, they linger only in memory. The spirit, the will to win and the will to excel , these are the qualities that are so much more important than any of the events that occasion them.” After the coaches were given their rings, player representatives from each team spoke about their coaches with Nick Torres representing the 2017 Soccer team and Jack Grizzle representing the 2017 Wrestling team. The song “We Are the Champions” played as the teams and coaches went to their places.
