132 Graduate from Holtville High School
The Holtville High School graduating class of 2017 Commencement Ceremony began June 9th 2017 at 7:30 pm. In attendance was the HUSD School Board consisting of Matt Hester, John Hawk, Kevin Grizzle, Ben Abatti Jr. and Jared Garewal. Others in attendance include Superintendent Celso Ruiz and Assistant Superintendent John Paul Wells. Holtville High School Administrators Principal Mario Garcia and Assistant Principal Anthony Arevalo emceed the event. Staff and Faculty from Holtville High School also attended.
The Processional began with the Viking Band of Pride playing “Pomp and Circumstance” as 2017 HHS graduates walked onto the football field following the HHS faculty and took their places on the stands. Joanna Aguirre lead the crowd in the National Anthem followed by the Invocation lead by Ashley Salgado.
HHS Principal Mario Garcia welcomed the crowd of well wishers and parents in attendance who had come to witness the event. The HHS Chorus then sang the Senior Song “I Lived” and the HHS Band of Pride played “Kentucky 1800”. Salutatorian Jorge Mendoza used his state champion speech skills to rile up the crowd and encourage the 2017 graduating class to “Fight On!” Valedictorian Cleo Miki’s address outlined her high school journey as she thanked her mother and friends. Finally, the Principal’s Award was given to Marina Burfield. Principal Mario Garcia pointed out Marina Burfield’s perfect attendance and many hours of community service as reasons for her receiving the award.

The Benediction was per- formed by Janette Ortega and then the Holtville High School graduating class of 2017 was presented to all in attendance. The night ended with the presentation of the video yearbook put together by Morgan Munger, Jasmine Martinez, Emery Magallanes, Priscilla Rendon and Nicholas Torres. As per tradition the graduating class was given a few moments to say their goodbyes before friends and family joined them.
