Helen Wilson and Maria “Millie” Crespo dedicated 17 years of service to the Holtville Unified School District. Both Cafeteria workers, along with several teachers were recognized at the 2017 HUSD retirement banquet held May 31st, at the Finley Elementary cafeteria.

The Holtville Unified School District School Board was in attendance as well as administration and staff. Retirees honored at the event include Maria Crespo, Helen Wilson, Debra Fargo, Lisa Natwick, Bruce DeLoach and Linda Smith.

A taco cart was provided for the enjoyment of all. Live musical entertainment was played for the crowd in attendance. Vocals were provided by Holtville City Manager Nick Wells and drums, bass and lead guitar were performed by Holtville High School teachers Aaron Mendoza, Ben Williams and James Anderholt.

Superintendent Celso Ruiz introduced the retirees; Helen Wilson, a long time cafeteria worker who has served at every school site in the district said,”I’m proud of what I’vedone with the kids. Myself and Millie Crespo were hired at the same time and the kids still recognize us when they’re grown as the ‘cafeteria ladies’. I’m proud of the work we’ve done and it feels good to be recognized.”

The retirees’ s were each given clocks and autographed platters with colleagues signatures. Everyone wishes a well deserved rest for the retirees who dedicated themselves selflessly to the benefit of the Holtville Unified School District and its students for so long.
