Free Lunches Provided This Summer By HUSD
BY LUIS BURGOS
The Holtville Unified School District is reaching out the community’s youth by offering free breakfast and lunch to anyone under the age of 18. Breakfast and Lunch are served at Holtville High School and Finley Elementary School from 7:30 am – 8:15 am and 10:45 am – 12:15 pm respectively. The program will be carried out from June 13 until July 7, with the exception of July 4, when the program won’t be available. The free breakfast and lunch is available to both summer school students and anyone under 18. The school’s principal, Mario Garcia, commented, “The program is a great idea, students don’t have to be in summer school and it gives the kids of the community an opportunity to enjoy free meals and it’s a good way for us, the school, to give back to the community. The person in charge of the program is Lucy Chavoya, director of food services, and she’s doing a great job supervising the program in its entirety.” Both summer school kids and those who aren’t have the opportunity to continue enjoying free meals both in the mornings and afternoons from Monday through Friday at either Holtville High School or Finley Elementary.
