Cuts and Fades Barber Shop and Salon hosted its back to school hair cutting marathon event on Saturday, August 19, 9a.m. to 2p.m. This is the fourth annual Cuts and Fades back to school event. All haircuts were $10 for elementary and middle school students. Everyone who
received a haircut was treated to donuts and soft drinks while they waited.
While they lasted, backpacks filled with school supplies were given out to those who came in for a haircut. Backpacks and school supplies were provided by Cuts and Fades owner Diana Garcia. Members of the Holtville Boys and Girls Club who signed up at the end of the summer program party also received a free haircut.
Diana Garcia, along with Ilario Castro and Angelica Garcia were on hand to cut hair and control the crowd. Garcia said, “We do it to give back to the youth of the community. It’s always nice to see that big smile when the kids get their haircut and backpack.”
Back to school time is one of the busy seasons for Cuts and Fades. Ilario Castro said, “Once school is about to start it’s nonstop around here, 9a.m. to 6p.m. We do appointments just so people avoid the wait.” When asked about the back to school hair cutting marathon Castro said, “I’m hoping everything goes smooth. We do it to give back to the community. I’ve been cutting hair for my friends since I was fourteen. I went to the military and now I’m a licensed pro.”
