It was a tough battle that could have gone either way, but one that ended up not in Holtville’s favor.
The high school varsity football hosted the Palo Verde Yellowjackets last Friday night and came up just short.
The teams traded the ball back and forth for most of the night, with neither team really having the upper hand. A couple of breakthroughs by the visitors made all the difference in the final 22-15 score.
Holtville scored first with a long field goal by Edwin Partida to go up 3-0 in the second quarter. Andy Pascual added six more before the half with a ten yard run, but the Blythe team had two touchdowns and two extra point kicks in that same quarter for a 14-9 lead.
It wasn’t until the fourth quarter that the scoreboard changed. The Vikings put together a long drive that culminated with another Pascual TD for a slim 15-14 lead. Unfortunately, the Yellowjackets were able to do the same and came out on top.
The junior varsity football team made short work of their counterparts from Palo Verde High last week. The Viking hosts sent their visitors home with a 46-0 loss and made it look easy.
Both teams will be in Desert Mirage this Friday night. The JV game will begin at 4 p.m., followed by the varsity contest at 7 p.m.
The Vikings won’t be back home until Homecoming on October 13, although a frosh/soph game against Brawley is slated for here on October 5.
