The varsity volleyball team at Holtville High School lost to the Brawley Wildcats on Tuesday but won a pair of matches last week, putting it right in the thick of things as league play is underway.
The Wildcats came to town this week and won in three straight sets, 25-17, 25-16, 25-6, but not without more than a few scares from the home team.
Sometimes things click and sometimes they don’t. While Tuesday’s battle didn’t favor the Vikings, last week’s sure did.
Holtville had to travel all the way to West Shores on the Salton Sea to hand the Wildcats a 3-1 defeat.
The Vikings were at home last Thursday in more ways than one. The Palo Verde Yellowjackets made the long drive from Blythe and had an even longer ride home after suffering 25-13, 25-16 and 25-21 losses.
The Vikings are 6-11 overall and 2-4 in league play. They have an away game in Calexico tonight and will be on the road again next Tuesday against the Imperial Tigers. Holtville will host its final home game of the season against the Imperial Tigers on October 12. The rest of the season will be away games.
