SEELEY — A new personal record, a new school record, a new league record, and a new course record. Not a bad day at the office for Holtville High School senior Alan Jimenez.
With his time of 15 minutes, 42.90 seconds on the Sunbeam Lake Park 3.1-mile course on Saturday, March 6, Jimenez put himself in the record books as the fastest high schooler to run the Seeley-area course. The time also established a new personal record for the senior and a new school record for Holtville High.
“Just before the race, I was talking to coach (Gerardo) Lara and we were saying I needed to go for the record, and he wanted me to push it at the 1½-mile mark,” Jimenez said. “At 2½ miles I could see my coach and hear some of the people cheering for me, and I just went for it harder and harder.”
Jimenez has won each of the four dual meets the Vikings have had this season.
“It feels great to have the records, but what I always wanted was to be a CIF champion,” Jimenez said. “So hopefully, we’ll be able to have a CIF meet and I can at least get a shot at it.”
